Deborah A. Fields is a Senior Research Fellow with the TLT Lab and an associate research professor of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University. One focus of her work is supporting learners to make creative artifacts with digital media, everyday craft materials, or coding, including with electronic textiles or in the digital environment Scratch. This artifact-based work culminated in her lead development of the e-textiles Exploring Computer Science curricular unit, a unit taken up across the country to promote students’ and teachers’ designing and coding e-textiles artifacts in creative and equitable ways. More recently she has been studying learning that moves outside of institutional boundaries and follows learners’ interests in everyday life, such as the transformative learner-initiated projects of villagers, factory workers, and educators across Thailand.
